SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
May 31 – June 30, 2017
The Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) aims to assist students from underrepresented
and disadvantaged backgrounds with gaining admission to dental school, and succeeding in their future careers in dentistry.
Over the span of four weeks, various educational and professional development
experiences will be provided to SEP participants, including intensive DAT courses,
dental school application assistance, simulation lab activities, dental specialty
panels, primary care exposure, along with academic success, professional development,
and cultural competency seminars.
SEP will also coordinate several social activities for participants within the city of
Detroit, and networking events with Detroit Mercy Dental students, staff, faculty,
and alumni, along with local dentists in the community.
With acceptance into the program, SEP provides cost-free housing and complimentary
DAT preparation. A stipend to cover food and travel expenses is also included.
Program Qualifications:
Identify as an underrepresented racial minority, or economically / educationally disadvantaged student
Entering your Junior or Senior year of college, or recently graduated (within the last 5 years)
Have a minimum of 2.75 GPA
Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in dentistry and improving the health of underserved patient populations
Application will be available early November 2016 and will be due in late February 2017.
