Dear Pre-Med and Health Professional Students,

 

The University of Colorado School of Medicine is proud to announce its Spring-Summer 2016 emergency and wilderness medicine schedule, as well as to put out a call for volunteer TAs and assistants for the first half of the year.   For our Colorado-based classes (italicized below) we offer three full tuition scholarships. All classes, as well as the scholarships, are open to college

students and recent grads from any region, including internationally.

 

Emergency and Wilderness Medicine Schedule

     March 16-18  Denver Global Health Advanced First Aid (GHAFA cert)

     March 19-20      Denver Wilderness First Aid (WFA cert)

     April 23-25        Denver Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS cert)

     May TBA           Oregon Disaster Response Advanced First Aid (DRAFA cert)

     May 20-22         Denver Global Health Advanced First Aid (GHAFA cert)

     May 22-June 3  Colorado Pre-Med Emergency & Wilderness Medicine (WFR cert)

     June 4-12           Alabama 1st Year Medical Student Wilderness Medicine (AWLS cert)

     July 21-30          Costa Rica Pre-Med Wilderness & Tropical Medicine (WFR cert)

     Aug. 7-19           Colorado Pre-Med Emergency & Wilderness Medicine (WFR cert)

     Aug 8-16            Greenland Pre-Med Climate Change & Polar Medicine (academic credit) 

            Some classes, such as the May-June Emergency & Wilderness Medicine Pre-Med class, are nearly full, so early registration is highly recommended.  See www.coloradowm.org to learn more

            For any of these volunteer positions please send a resume and a letter of interest indicating what you hope to gain from the experience and what skills and strengths you bring to the course or to the Wilderness Medicine Section.  Applications can be sent to todd.miner@ucdenver.edu.  There is a general expectation that for TA positions you have previously successfully completed the course.  Marketing and Curriculum positions require a once a week conference call but can be conducted from one’s home or campus (being in Colorado not necessary).

2016 ADEA GoDental Recruitment Fair

Dear Emory Pre-Health Students:

Registration is now open for the 2016 ADEA GoDental Recruitment Fair taking place on Saturday, March 12, from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO.

More than 350 high school and college students are expected to attend this event, which promises to offer students an engaging and interactive program.

2015 Pre-Med Global, Emergency, and Wilderness Medicine classes at the University of Colorado

The University of Colorado School of Medicine has announced its schedule of 2015 Pre-Med Global, Emergency, and Wilderness Medicine classes. These innovative classes are exemplary learning experiences and are taught by top-notch physicians and medical school faculty who are dedicated to share their knowledge with eager undergraduate students. PreHealth students are encouraged to take advantage of these unique courses.

Free Global Health MOOC: Starting later this month, the University of Colorado School of Medicine ‘s FREE six week Global Health Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) will be available for registration. Optional, hands-on three-day Global Health Advanced First Aid classes compliment the didactic portion. See https://www.coursera.org/course/ghresponder for more info.

Pre-Med Emergency & Wilderness Medicine Classes – Colorado: The University of Colorado School of Medicine’s two-week Denver and Rockies based program. A week of lectures and labs at the medical school and hospital, with ER shadowing, EMS ride-alongs, and CPR certification, followed by wilderness medicine at a camp high in the Rockies.  Optional Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification. Spring Break Pre-Med Wilderness & Emergency Medicine Classes Nicaragua: Held at a rustic, island eco-lodge.  Focus on wilderness, emergency, and tropical medicine. Jungle hikes, kayaking, mountain biking, natural history tours.  Earn optional Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification.   • Spring Break I – March 4-12
  • Spring Break II – March 12-20

Summer Pre-Med Wilderness & Emergency Medicine: Costa Rica – July 18-30: Held at a simple eco-lodge with its own Pacific beach. Focus on wilderness, emergency, and tropical medicine. Jungle hikes, whitewater rafting, night walks, canopy tours, natural history, and optional surfing. Earn optional Wilderness First Responder certification. Multiple, full, need-based scholarships are offered for all domestic pre-med classes. Classes fill quickly so early registration is highly recommended.
